WELSH HORSE MOUNTAIN RIDES
Welsh Horse Mountain Rides are much more than Pony Trekking. Riders regularly leave us saying they have never experienced riding like it. If you have been Pony Trekking, you will be very surprised how different and exciting our Rides are.
Our horses are fit and sure-footed Welsh Cobs and Welsh Cob crosses who will guide you across a vast terrain of moorland, forestry and mountains. They are forward-going, well-behaved and sociable. They are well-schooled and well-trained, and they take part in our Cavalry Displays at shows all over England and Wales. During the Ride, you will have many opportunities to canter and gallop, and to jump small fences and ditches, all of which are optional.
We offer two Rides, both of which are in remote areas of southern Mid Wales. We refer to the two Rides as the Mynydd Epynt Ride and the Mynydd Myddfai Ride (Mynydd is the Welsh word for mountain). Both have a mixture of forestry and open moorland. The Mynydd Myddfai Ride usually includes the opportunity to go over a series of small jumps on a mile-long gallop.
There are opportunities to see much wildlife, including herds of wild mountain ponies on Mynydd Myddfai. Sightings of the once rare and endangered Red Kite are almost guaranteed. There are also opportunities to stop and enjoy and photograph the stunning views, but the views are subject to weather conditions!
All Rides include a substantial picnic meal with alcoholic and soft, hot and cold drinks.
The Start Points for both Rides are within 15 miles to the west of Brecon.
We are based just outside Llandeilo, but Llandovery is the most convenient town for accommodation. Please follow this link if you would like to have a look at local places to stay.
